We did it. Today i was testing around with my friend Ronny where we can get a source to power usb devices on my Lenovo Miix 2. There are various sources around for 3.3VDC. The hurdle was to find a 5VDC source for the USB port. There is no available so far, but the 3.3 Volts are enough to power the most devices made for usb. We tried to connect a 3G USB stick and it was recognized by the lenovo. The pain was it was disconnecting several times when we want to start the connection. There are 2 explanations for this:
1. The source voltage is too low
2. The stick is bad supported
After we treid around different usb devices and we figured out that they seem to work properly. Usb memory, usb wifi stick, usb dvb tv stick and so on.
Tomorrow i will do a video of the stuff to proof the concept. Stay tuned for it.
Further i installed 2 wires for inductive charging the Lenovo. You can see it on the left side the red and black wires. Tomorrow i will order the parts to get this done.
I guess if you connect that internal USB port to an external powered USB hub you might be able to connect anything you like?
I want to use my miix as a dash mount in my car with centrafuse and need to connect a number of devices..
yes should be possible. maybe better would be an active hub with 5 V source because the internal Voltage is only 3.3V.
BTW, this is not the same USB data source as the one the micro USB charger port that you can connect an OTG adapter right?.
it seems like it is a different data source for the M.2 port.
A video footage is actually uploading to youtube and soon postet with some testings of the port. still need some time to upload but as soon it is available i will post it here.
Hello guys,
today I have disassembled my 3g Miix ,here are some photos if you are interested, I did hide IMEI. Never the less m.2 is used for 3g module.
I hope that I finally found FRU of lcd module, which is on green label(sencod picture) may I ask you if that number is same on your version of Miix ?
Good luck with modding.
