This morning i started to figure out why the lenovo miix is not charging while the OTG adapter is connected. So i ordered at begin of this week a micro usb male connector because i found out that the other stock otg cable has only one with 4pins. So Pin 4 and 5 will be shortened internally.
The new connector arrived yesterday but i was not in mood to start the tests. So after the breakfast the research began.
after the first tests and there was no success in activating charge and otg at the same time i read around on different blogs and forum in the internet. so most of these guys which had success had these OTG-Y-cable. I cutted an old USB cable and took the male connector to get the same cable they had. i did also some tests with resistors from 100kohms to 220kohms without success.
so i tested around with different USB hubs. some of them are active with extra powersupply some of the passiv. But again no success.
after the hubs i took a look on the cables so i collected all calbes i found in my apartment to go on with the tests. after a while i missed an male to male connector to go with the power supply directly on the ports of the hub. i remembered of this old ebookman i had in my museumbox. so i checked and voila there was an good quality build male to male USB A cable.
the next step was to check all my chargers because there are many reports around that the charger should have enough current to power the lenovo and the devices in the hub. the most powerful charger was the one of my sony xperia z ultra with 1500mah. i rememberd that the original charger of the lenovo has 2000mah. the big problem i bought my lenovo miix in hongkong with this weird wallconnector. so in Germany i can not use it to power the device. i took it out of the original box in which the lenovo is shipped and broke it up to access the inner parts. after this i soldered it to an european wall connector to continue the test.
so now i suddenly had success in activating both with this devices:
Lenovo Wall connector, Ebookman Cable, Sony OTG and the oldest usb hub i own. i think its an USB 1 Version. So the datatransfer will not be the best but enough for a keyboard mouse and some other devices. with the newer hubs i still have no success so i think its because the newer USB Version or because there is too much electronic inside which changes something whicht the otg or the lenovo needs to charge. so the oldest and simplest one did it. Charging works like a charm with activated WIFI, Miracast and heavy games it is still increase charging. Most people out there who had success in getting this done say that there has to be a sequence to connect the hub, otg, charger and the lenovo but i can not confirm this. in my case it is even what to connect first. there is no matter if there are already devices connected to the hub before powering it up or connecting the Miix. i will do a short video to show the results soon.
