Lenovo Miix 2-8 3G Version

so i did a bit research around the 3g version of the miix and found out that Lenovo already sold it in Singapore since the beginning of February 2014. But, and now i understand why there in the rest of the world is no 3g version because the internal modem or the antenna attached to it caused some trouble there. Most people had problems to get connection or hold the connection continously. So most of the devices which are sold there already get back for refund. So far is i read there should be there soon a 2. batch of the lenovo miix 2-8 with less problems at modem side.

I found out too that there was in the first batch a built in 3g modem from huawei.

here is a link with more informations from a special forum over there:

as far as i can see it should be possible to connect a modem inside this tiny tablet even it is not integrated at purchase. space is enough there as you can see on my pictures i took at the disassembling post. I will do some testings and will see what happens. this is the biggest lack of the miix right now.

Lenovo Miix 2 – 8 disassembly

today i did a little reverse engineering for the guys out there. so i disassembled my lenovo miix 2 8 because i want to know what ssd or in this case emmc is integrated in this device. i disassembled the motherboard because at the first view i was not able to localize where the emmc is located. after taking apart the mainboard cover i realized that it is soldered on the mainboard. so there is only a hard way to upgrade this to a bigger one. my miix was sold as 64gb version. while i checked all the parts i saw next to the micro sd slot the empty space for the lte or umts slot. check out the pics. i am sorry they are not i the correct order here but if anyone out there is interested in details please contact me.

Lenovo Miix 2 8 charging with OTG connected

This morning i started to figure out why the lenovo miix is not charging while the OTG adapter is connected. So i ordered at begin of this week a micro usb male connector because i found out that the other stock otg cable has only one with 4pins. So Pin 4 and 5 will be shortened internally.

The new connector arrived yesterday but i was not in mood to start the tests. So after the breakfast the research began.

My lenovo miix and WoT (World of Tanks)

I tested today a little bit around the performance of this tiny thing with the quadcore Atom CPU.

In the past i tried to get this WoT game working. So i found out that it needs so much power and good quality units to go…

But my Lenovo was good prepared for this. I tried in 1280×800 resolution and could go for optimized settings in the game without performance issues. I am surprised about this and will go on with testings.

the biggest problem is the only micro usb connection. So the power of the battery run low after a few hours of gaming.

i have to prepare for this and will get a USB OTG with charging capability soon.

Lenovo Miix 2 and Miracast again

I resetted my miix today so i was able to figure out if the miracast has really differences in function without all the updates. O can confirm it is like that. With stock OS thwre is duplicate screen working. What i found out is that with stock OS it is in portrait mode and shows the screen in landscape so half of the screen is used on the lenovo and full screen on the miracast device which is not optimal. I decided right now to install all updates from microsoft again an stay with the fucked options which only can access extended screen. This is really poor so o have to wait for optimized drivers from lenovo.

Lenovo Miix 2-8 Bios Firmware Update

Yesterday i found in a chinese forum a bios firmware update for my miix. First i tried to download it and after 10 tries i stopped and get to my favourite blog from Sean Chen and voila he already had a package of this up. i downloaded it and mit braveness i startet to install it.

on the lenovo Support homepages worldwide there is no information about an Update so i think it is an unofficial built. but for that i saw since yesterday it does a quite good job.

since there is no official changelog i have to collect informations about this update.

so the screen brightness is now adjustable for lower light conditions. before it was too bright so some customers get problems with that.
what i found out before this update the microsd card was recognised by the device sporadically. Now it accesses it right after inserting.

So the Firmware i had before was 1.05 and now it is 1.07.

for those like me who can read chinese 😉 this is the link to the chinese forum http://ideapad.it168.com/thread-4991778-1-1.html

Miix and Bluetooth

For long time i am proud owner of an Sennheisser MM550 Bluetooth Headset. Right now i found out that my Lenovo Miix 2 is the first Full Windows device that recognise it without any problems. Music from VLC will straight go to the Headset if you connect it. Thats nice. I will do some tests with skype and hangout with this to see how it will to there. stay tuned.
