eachine racer 180 and the crash

Ok guys to keep you up the news about my eachine racer 180 I have to tell a short story.

After 2 short flight sessions I decided to upgrade this little beast. From now on I will call it “Fotzie” due to a figure of speach of my friend Florian. Remind his UAV is from now on called Fick (hahaha). The last few days I put in lot of constructing to get bigger props installed because the 4x45x3″ props are completely inefficient. I decided to longer the arms to fit longer props but the biggest props which will fit on this frame will be even with longer arms 5″ due to the distance of the arms (measured from front to back). Another friend Jochen brought me to a solution to fit 6″ props. He said bend the arms (which is not possible with carbon tubes) but the solution was quiet easy. The Mounting plates take the motors now out of the middle of the tubes. The offset is not much but… ( I will come back later to the but…).

I constructed the new arms with the drawings in my head and voila it is possible to fit 6″ on the fotzie. Stock there are only maybe 4-5min flighttimes possible which is not acceptable for this size of quad. I endend up with this setup.

These are 5,5″ props strenghtend with carbon fibre. The problem is that the servo is much too weak, ok for 4 inch props but the offset to the tubes and the bigger forces due to the bigger propellers killed the servo within 30seconds mechanically. Fotzies arms where hanging to the backside so it flipped over and crashed on the street really hard. First it looked like a complete destruction but I took the whole day yesterday to get it back into the air. I did major changes to the servo and the frame that I can fit a stronger and bigger metal gear servo inside with success. I keep you updated soon about the changes.
