Huawei E3331 disassembled

First tests are done the stick is working on the pc. After I connected it to the Lenovo Miix 2 i found out that the indication LED is not giving me a feedback. So far I am sure that the supply voltage is too low. So i opened the the case of the Huawei E3331 to find out if there is a voltage regulator inside to power the device with 3.3V from the source i got in my Miix. I measured the connectors through and there is a 3.3V source so maybe i can connect it directly there to get the modem working…

Modem arrived for the Lenovo Miix

I choosed the Huawei E3331 even there is at the moment no way for voice calls. The USB stick is really tiny. Huawei promotes it as the tiniest USB 3G stick available at the moment. So we will see… But first i have to make some tests with it on my PC if it works before get rid of the warranty.

Searching for DC source

I get a kick back. There is no 5vdc source on the mainboard available. I found various sources for DC 3.7V but I am not sure if this will be enough for a standard 5VDC USB device. Maybe i have to try around with the available voltage supplied by the mainboard. The next thing is it is hard to measure while the mb is off the frame. The pins are really really tiny so the risk of melting something is growing with this hurdle.

So far I only found pins which are powered up with 5V when the charger is connected. I have to figure out if there are pins also available only in battery mode. For now nothing is melted. Hope to continue without any problems.

We´re going to Ibiza

Today we will start a short trip to Ibiza Island for 3 days.

We booked a flight with an airline i never heard of before named Vueling Airlines. Excited what will happen there but so far i think it is the same category like Ryanair from Ireland.

Our Apartment is located at the Playa den Bossa called Jet Club

Stay tuned.
