Ticks innovation next chapter

Hi folks,

With every part I am redesigning to fit my needs and to get the most efficeincy out of it there are more changes to the design. When I had the idea of this beast in May 2015 I did not know how much work and money wasting this will cause. I knew that it will be a hard way to make an innovation like this but like that?… No, for sure.
Everything takes time but my job kills most of my personal daily power and in the evening after work to go into designing, construction and milling is really a breathtaking action. Thanks to my girlfriend Neciel and my friends to support me and not being seriously mad about this.

Back to topic… I redesigned the arms today. One of the worst things in a sandwich design is that the supporting plates will fall off when you disassemble the sandwich. I hate this kind of things, especially on my django. It happened not often to take it apart but when you have to do actions for maintenance on a frame designed with these weak bugs you know what I am talking about. You will rack your nerves and it requires nerves of steel to achieve to get the model back in working condition.

To prevent this the new design won’t produce lacks like that. Everyone who will own this frame will be happy to select my the tick-design. Sorry for not getting deeper into that heavy innovations. Because of this there are less screenshots and design drawings nowadays. But the final design is near. I bought cheaper material for preproduction samples and soon the miling will begin. Stay tuned and thanks for all supporters… We will get it real!

I thought about crowdfunding for this kind of frame but I am not sure to start an action like that now. There is only a really simple preproduction frame of the tick but with astonishing flying capabilities yet. The actual preproduction sample is hovering in a tiny room with full gimbaled gopro and no gps and it is really easy to control. In the end I will try to introduce two versions: one with the gimbaled camera and one without gimbal for racing. Everybody can choose what will fit his/her needs when it is final. But the gimbaled will be done first because it is much harder to design.

the ticks innovation

The cnc-machine is working for one week now. on the weekend I did the first useful millings to provide holes for the mounting plate made of sandwich plates of wood. Now I understand how everything is working. Today I ordered a tool measuring sensor for changing the tools without any hassle. This will get much more value to the work with the machine in near future.

Right now I am again at reworking the arms and the ground plate (I will call that ground plate in future posts the motherboard)

For doing maintenance to everything the motherboard should hold the arms without the second plate. I try to implement a kind of puzzle construction which makes everything more complicated but prevents the owner at final construction to loose control of the cables modules and rest of the stuff. Stay connected. This copter will be a earthshaking and groundbraking INNOVATION to the UAV market. We are reinventing modern multicopters for getting the most flightimes and maximum of efficiency out of it.

Project The Tick restarted

This is what happens after half year pausing the project due to different other important things…

So what will these drawings tell me (not you outside there)? It is easy: at the moment these are done there where more than 5 beers on the game too but this means that I will change the whole setup to get it much more lighter than before and much more aerodynamic which means less air turbulences. The next step is to get the cnc mill ready. One milestone os done since this morning. I had a holiday today that’s why I decided to set up the mill finally. All axis are working well now. Next I have to go deeper into CAD and CAM to bring in the changes of the last weekend.

Projects take long time

For the last 3 weeks I am waiting for my new tool – a portal milling machine to perfect the hexa copter called The Tick. The guys around me are not able to finish the construction  for more than 3 months. I decided end of August to purchase a milling machine which is able to finish the work on my frames. The setup was proved 3 month ago as a good solution so I can go forward with much more optimized constructions with this machine. I hope to get a perfect solution until end of this year because I’lI plan to go for a trip around the world with this hexacopter… See the first 2 prototypes which will get finished the next few weeks…

New gadget on the way

So my open project with my little TICK hexarotor is hanging on because I can not get the frame done for the last 10 weeks. Friends, helpers and guys around me are not able to get the few holes drilled inside to get a first full prototype. So I decided today to buy my second milling machine to get all the stuff done at home. I am looking around for some weeks for a perfect machine doing all I want to do but there are only old worn out machines or even better ones for a big money. Even the guys who I asked in the net who are selling second hand mechanics are so expensive that I decided to go for a chinese milling machine called here „KÄSEFRÄSE“.

This morning I woke up and had a message of a guy/girl from ebay who is selling these machines. I got an offer for getting a big one 6040 machine with a 3-axis controller for around 1370€. So I accepted this and waiting now for the package to arrive.

I will go on with a report about this underdog CNC and we will see how it will do the job.

THE TICK kickback

Yesterday I did some testflights with the tick. Before I changed 2 motor mounts to get fixed with platic rivets to let the motors turn without vibrations under heavy load. While flying I realized after a few minutes bad behaviours of the UAV. I tried to go for a landing but it was too late. The aircraft started to make a flipover and crashed bottoms up in the grass. The gimbal was smashed out of the  connectors, one propeller was missing additionally the nut too. This morning I checked again the crash area. I recovered some parts which I did not saw yesterday night when it was getting dark outside. In Germany the sunset at this time is at 9:30pm around. So the flashlight gave me no honor to get all the parts yesterday. This morning 3 of the gimbal bumpers, a smashed propeller and the prop nut appeared suddenly. Today I will check if more parts and wires are destroyed.

The reason for this is the gimbal. I don´t know why but different forums say that other pilots had same experience with this gimbal. The control board getting really hot while flying. Maybe there is some need of cooling for it to work correctly.

I still want to  order different batteries to test around but the german Post employees are in labour strike for the last few weeks. Packages are stuck in their office and it is hard to get them at these days.
